We are pleased to announce that Matt Malone has been named President and CEO of Barber-Nichols Inc. by its Board Of Directors effective May 3rd, 2021. Matt joined BNI in the summer of 2015 as a Project Engineer growing BNI’s strategic footprint in the rocket engine turbopump market. He was promoted in January 2018 to PMO Manager overseeing some of BNI’s most strategic US Navy programs. In January of 2020, Matt became our VP of Operations and led our team to be named Colorado’s 2020 Aerospace Manufacturer of the Year.
Matt is a degreed Mechanical Engineer with a BS from the Pennsylvania State University, Schreyer Honors College, and an MS from Georgia Institute of Technology. He interned at GE Transportation and was hired into the Edison Engineering Development Program after earning his Bachelor’s degree. Matt gained his turbomachinery experience as a Lead Turbocharger Design Engineer and was promoted to Turbocharger Design and Development Manager in his 5th year at GE.
Dan Thoren, BNI’s President, and CEO since 1997 will remain at BNI as Chairman of the Board of Directors where he will provide mentoring, support, and guidance to Matt and his team as well as perform strategic business functions. Dan commented on Matt’s promotion, “Matt is an amazing person, engineer, manager, and leader and will take BNI, its stakeholders, and its customers to an exciting and prosperous future. His customer relation skills shone brightly on his first customer visit to Virgin Orbit, his technical prowess led BNI to additive manufacturing, his team-building was instrumental in winning the confidence of our Navy customers, and his natural change management strengths have installed the building blocks BNI needs to continue its growth and achieve new milestones.
