Ram Air Turbopump

The Barber-Nichols Ram Air Turbopump RAT is a compact, air-driven fuel pump for hypersonic air-breathing propulsion systems. The Barske-type pump delivers a wide range of fuel flows and pressures for the smallest possible turbine size. The pump can deliver 0.5 to 2.5 pps of JP10 at 500 to 1500 psid, all while only using 0.15 to 0.55 pps of airflow. The RAT is a self-cooled, high-speed assembly that can self-arrest when run dry at the end of your mission. An additional integrated valve assembly can upgrade your RAT to enable passive speed control by bypassing fuel back to the tank, eliminating the need for a bulky turbine control valve. This power-dense unit delivers 1 HP per cubic inch and 9 HP per pound, enabling long-range flight without heavy batteries.
